30 OCT: SAMANTHA MELIA + CAITLIN MALING

On Saturday 30 October, Perth Poetry Club brings you talented and entertaining poets SAMANTHA MELIA and CAITLIN MALING. Join us at The Moon, 323 William Street, Northbridge 2-4 pm, to hear some wonderful poetry. Plus open mike.

SAMANTHA MELIA is originally from Dublin, Ireland. After completing a degree in Psychology and Sociology she went travelling and mostly lived in the Bronx, New York.  Since her early years she has had a deep love and passion for the written word, especially poetry. She has always written poetry but only recently has taken the plunge and begun to put it out there since moving to Perth.  Although her travel experiences greatly influence what she writes, her work is predominantly about the personal journey we have with ourselves, the journey to discover our own souls.  Her poems are the mirror that reflect the image of that self discovery.

CAITLIN MALING has published poetry around Australia in Quadrant, Blue Dog, Going Down Swinging, Voiceworks, Text Journal and the Sun Herald Extra, and in 2009 she was the winner of the John Marsden Poetry Prize. In 2011 Caitlin will be attending the Varuna Writers Centre to work on her first collection with the help of a Varuna Fellowship for Writer's Retreat.
