28 Jan 2012: Julie Watts, Mardi May, Karla Hart

On Saturday 28 January at Perth Poetry Club we have a triple feature: Julie Watts, Mardi May and Karla Hart. Plus open mike as always. 2-4pm at The Moon, 323 William St Northbridge.

The room has a fibreglass roof. Bring a parasol and a fan! If it is unbearably hot (the weather, I mean -- we already know the poets will be) we may cut the event short.

Julie Watts is a member of OOTA, a Fremantle-based writing group. Her poems have been published in dotdotdash, Indigo and Creatrix and commended in the 2009 Tom Collins Poetry Prize and the 2012 Gregory O'Donoughe International Poetry Competition 2012. Julie was a member of the poetry masterclasses held at Peter Cowan Writers Centre last year and recommends this experience to other writers. An anthology of the masterclass group's work will be launched at Peter Cowan Writers Centre on 11th February.

Mardi May is a management member and facilitator at KSP Writers Centre.
Her short stories and poetry have been widely awarded and published and
performed. She has written 4 books on social history and 3 poetry collections and a verse
novella. She’s currently finishing a 2nd verse novella, which has been keeping her off
the streets where she often finds her poetry.

Karla Hart is a presenter on Noongar Radio (100.9FM). She is also manager and performer with the Kwarbah Djookian dance group; a role model with Role Models Australia throughout remote WA; a lecturer at Polytechnic West for the Solid Ground course; and a workshop facilitator in traditional dance, poetry performance and mask performance. There's a brief interview with Karla at vibe.com.au.
